I'm not kidding when I say that it's been so long since I've done a blog post that I actually forgot where the "compose new post" button was. Yikes.
Anyways, I am so so so excited to share my Mom and Dad's kitchen renovation with you guys! Y'all should know that my mother is the most selfless, generous, loving person on the planet, and if anyone is deserving of an updated kitchen, it's her! I affectionately call her Martha Stewart on 'Roids, because this woman can do it all. And when I say all, I mean ALL. Growing up, she made our lunches with fresh baked brownies and notes. She would do kart-wheels down the hallway at hotels on family vacations. Currently, she is re-upholstering my sofa, she hangs wallpaper for my clients, she does the books at my Dad's construction company, her green thumb is second to none, her flower and vegetable garden are ridiculous, she builds and refinishes furniture, she is an incredible cook and makes dinner almost every night, and the list goes on and on. She is so special to me and I feel so grateful to call her mine.
Here are some befores to give you an idea of where we started:
And now for the afters! Yew!
I kept the same layout but opened things up a bit. There was a little pantry to the left of the stove that was demoed out. I shifted the stove to be centered on the wall and kept things clean and simple by not adding any uppers. We were going to install open shelves, but since the ceilings are only 8', by the time we installed the sconces we realized that open shelving felt a little crammed. And I'm not made about it! I really love the minimalist vibe. The island was made a tad bigger, which you can't really tell from the photos. Besides that, it was out with the old and in with the new! New floors, appliances, cabinetry, counter tops, plumbing, hardware and lighting.
